steering committee meeting (Proudfit Hall at the bancroft public library)
SALEM, NY – The Town of Salem will be holding its first Project Advisory Committee meeting for “Heritage and Horizons: Town of Salem NY Comprehensive Plan” on Friday, November 21st from 2:30 – 4:00 PM in Proudfit Hall at the Bancroft Public Library.
A comprehensive plan is a long-range roadmap that guides a community’s growth, investment, and conservation efforts over the next 5-10 years. It identifies community priorities, evaluates existing conditions and future trends, and outlines policies and strategies for topics such as land use, housing, infrastructure, economic development, natural resources, and quality of life. Once adopted, the comprehensive plan provides an important foundation for local decision-making, grant applications, and capital planning.
The purpose of the Project Advisory Committee’s first meeting is to review the plan’s scope and schedule and to provide initial feedback on focus areas and the overall public engagement approach. The Committee is a collaborative, representative group of Town leadership, staff, and community members who will help guide the planning process and ensure it reflects Salem’s values and priorities.
The Committee will be assisted by the Lake Champlain Lake George Regional Planning Board and a consultant team led by LaBella Associates. The planning effort is supported by a NYS Department of State Smart Growth Comprehensive Planning grant.
Heritage and Horizons is designed as a stakeholder-driven, inclusive process to ensure the community’s vision shapes the plan’s goals and recommended strategies. Community members are welcome to attend the November 21st meeting; while it will be a working session, there will be an opportunity for public comments at the end. Additional opportunities for community input, including public workshops, surveys, and focus groups, will be provided throughout the process.
